Highlights-Marseille

We arrived in port before 8am. I had a pastry and fruit with a latte made by someone not named Ralph as I watched the approach. My tour wasn’t scheduled until 1:15pm so I examined the “Who Were the Vikings?” display case. They were the economic immigrants of their day, but came with an agenda. No wonder people have mixed feelings about border enforcement. I had to leave the Atrium lounge because the a/c was freezing my fingers. The tour was of the Panier, “basket,” district on foot. The major sites were: Cathedrale de la Major (the only place we went inside), the neo-classical St. Laurent’s church, Ft. Saint-Jean, Vieux Port (all sailboats, working port is further west over the hills), Notre-Dame de la Garde (in the distance), Center de la Vieille Charité, Hotel vielle le Dieu Charité (or just The Hôtel-Dieu), Church and bell tower of Les Accoules, and the old (but still in use) city hall. We skipped the climb to the Place des Moulins (highest place in the area). Back onboard, I watched the sun set from the stern of the ship as we headed to Monaco.
