I had a porra this morning with my coffee. While this is close to “I had gazpacho for lunch” territory, it is notable because Madrid is the only place I’ve seen them readily on offer. They are a gustatory pleasure. They are best ingested in small portions (just one) because they are very greasy. If I eat a second porra, I regret the stuffed feeling I get.
I no longer visit the Prado during the two “free” hours at the end of the day. You want to be in the first group of 50 admitted, or you spend the first hour shuffling in line toward the entrance. To do that, you have to stand in line for two hours. I get too tired from that to enjoy the experience. Besides, 7.50€ “old guy” admission is less than an order of paella.
