Highlights-Strait of Messina (at sea)
Today was a transit day, no port visits as we transited the Strait of Messina (2 miles wide at its narrowest) and passed the heel of Italy's boot on our way to Corfu, Greece. There were no hordes of people shuffling off the gangway to buses with military precision (Viking is very organized). Given my military background, I’m not one to complain about troop management. Getting people whose favorite tour destinations are the lounge and bar probably requires it, otherwise it would be “dogs and cats living together!” The formality probably also reduces Viking’s liability for “You lost my grandma” lawsuits. I ran around the second deck again (4 laps is about a mile). The normally reliable distance calculation of my running app was useless. It can’t separate ship motion from mine so I based my workout on duration only. In the afternoon, I sat on the veranda of my stateroom and watched the ocean. Actually, I watched my laptop screen and occasionally looked up at the water. I attended the Viking Performers (how’s that for a singing group name?) do their Sounds of the Seventies show. It was all medleys except their superb rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Whoah!
